Destination Information about Lorraine

Lorraine

Lorraine is proud of its strategic position at the border of Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany.
A strategic position at the crossroads of Europe explains Lorraine's long, colorful and often turbulent history, which has endowed two major cities with diverse artistic wealth: Metz, once a Gallo-Roman stronghold; and Nancy, whose elegant 18th-century buildings make artwork out of urban architecture.

Metz

Illuminated city, heritage city, garden city, enchanting Metz offers those on foot the promise of surprising walks through the town and along the ramparts. Metz boasts plenty of riches: one of the tallest Gothic cathedrals in the world, a heritage that combines history and contemporary art (Metz-Pompidou Centre from 2008)...
Add to this its friendly population, and you have a charming destination

Nancy

* Nancy, Dating back to the Middle Ages, blessed with majestic town houses, Nancy was provided with one of the most remarkable squares in Europe by King Stanislas in the 18th century, listed as a World Heritage Site by Unesco: Place Stanislas, which was refurbished, embellished and pedestrianised in 2005 for its 250th anniversary. At the turn of the century, Nancy was the birthplace of the Ecole de Nancy, a branch of European Art Nouveau which produced exceptional artists such as Gallé, Daum and Majorelle.
